Upon the anniversary of awarding Maria Sklodowska-Curie with the Noble Prize for the discovery of radium and polonium, UNESCO declared the year of 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry and the Year of Maria Sklodowska-Curie. For this occasion Tabanda designed the Totem, an installation erected in front of the Staszic Palace on Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw. Totem is a symbolic representation of the polonium element. It became a place for pedestrians to meet and relax.
